Why native plants? Native Indiana plants provide more habitat, food and support to wildlife and pollinators. Most plants brought here for landscape purposes from other parts of the world do not provide food to the insects that wildlife (like birds) farther up on the food chain require to survive. Currently WGT has 2 established native plant gardens and one to be planted in the fall of 2024. If you would like to volunteer to help maintain or plant a native garden in public spaces in Westfield, contact us.
Asa Bales Park Native Garden
This garden was started in 2019 in an area of sod at Asa Bales Park. The area is somewhat shady so over time it will become a woodland type shade garden

Raymond Worth Park Native Garden
This garden was started in collaboration with the Kiwanis Club of Westfield. This is an example of a more landscaped native garden in full sun. Please click through the slideshow to see its progress!
Monon Trail Garden
This garden was started in the spring of 2024 and will be planted in the fall of 2024. The garden is located on the Monon Trail in Westfield just north of SR 32. Like most of our gardens we begin by covering the sod with cardboard and then laying woodchips or leaves on top.
Volunteer to work to plant the Monon Trail Garden on our home page!
