What The Heck Are You Doing?!

WGT is now the official park steward of Raymond Worth Park! We will be working throughout the winter months to remove invasives on Fridays at 2:00 p.m. and Sundays at 10:00 a.m. The park is located at 16301 Little Creek Avenue. Watch our Facebook page for weather updates and cancellations. If you miss getting your frustrations out by pulling weeds in your garden during the summer, come join us as we tackle Callery Pear and Honeysuckle removal. Good times!

On November 9th, WGT planted over 200 plants in a new pollinator garden along Wheeler Road just north of State Road 32. We are looking forward to seeing what “pops up” in the spring.

JOIN US for our next Weed Wrangle at Osbourne Park, 17001 Ditch Road, on March 8th from noon to 3:00 p.m. All you need to bring are gloves and a smile!

Easy Ways to Reduce Your Impact on the Earth

The average American household consumes around 50 kilowatt-hours of electricity during the holiday season solely from Christmas lights. This may not seem like much but if you multiply that by hundreds of thousands of homes, it can be a huge energy drain. By replacing a 100-count string of incandescent mini lights with the same count of LED lights, you can save around $45.00 per year. Better yet, consider solar-powered lights.

Also, if you have old, unwanted or broken Christmas lights, you can drop them off at Whites Ace Hardware, 731 Rangeline Road in Carmel, through January 10, 2025 or Recycle Force, 816 N. Sherman Drive, Indianapolis (check website for drop-off hours).

Your Westfield Parks Board

The Westfield Parks Board, which was established this year, is comprised of individuals with a deep commitment to community service and a shared passion for promoting health, wellness and leisure activities for residents of all ages. The new Board has been busy approving maintenance contracts, and received the following report in November from the Parks Department:

Danielle Carey Tolan, Chief of Staff,  provided an update on the Simon Moon Project Phase One, stating that the project remains on schedule. She extended an invitation to board members to tour the site if they have not yet done so, encouraging them to see the progress firsthand. The department is pleased to announce a new employee to the team and a new promotion within the department into the role of Grand Junction Coordinator. Looking ahead to 2025, the department is planning to hire an arborist to further strengthen the team’s expertise and capacity.
